About Ngorongoro

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area was established in 1959 and is not only a wildlife haven but also a model of coexistence between humans and nature. The Maasai people have lived here for centuries, herding their cattle alongside wild animals in harmony.

The centerpiece of the conservation area is the Ngorongoro Crater—formed around 2.5 million years ago—which spans 260 square kilometers and shelters over 25,000 large animals.
